Surat (Gujarat) [India], March 22: On the occasion of World Forest Day, renowned environmentalist Viral Desai, popularly known as the “Greenman,” initiated a tree plantation drive at Kapodra Police Station, creating a pocket forest.

Viral Desai has resolved to transform Kapodra Police Station into a “Green Police Station.” As part of this initiative, he developed a pocket forest within the police station premises. Under this project, around 500 trees and plants have been planted to create a small jungle, with plans to add more attractions in the future.

Speaking about the initiative, Viral Desai said, “Today is a very significant day for the environment. With rising pollution levels in cities, pocket forests like these are essential in urban areas. This pocket forest will provide a peaceful and green environment for the police station staff and visitors alike.”

He further added, “India’s cities are in dire need of urban forests because urban areas require biodiversity. Through urban forests, we can also control the temperature in cities. Public places and properties, in particular, should be turned into models of environmental conservation. This not only raises awareness among a large section of the urban population but also ensures that they benefit from nature.”

It is noteworthy that Viral Desai, the founder of the ‘Satyagraha Against Pollution and Climate Change’ movement, has been honored by three different Presidents of India for his contributions to environmental conservation. He has planted 650,000 trees so far and has also created seven urban forests.
